We have two scorecards, named after local historical luminaries Horace Walpole and Lady Frances Waldegrave who are both synonymous with Strawberry Hill House.
Walpole Course
The Walpole Course plays off the white (holes 1-9) and black (holes 10-18) tees. It is for use by members in competitions only.
The Walpole Course is named after Horace Walpole, a pivotal figure in 18th Century society, literature, art and architecture. The third son of Sir Robert Walpole, Britain’s first Prime Minister, Horace was author of ‘The Castle of Otranto’, the world’s first Gothic novel, and founder of Strawberry Hill House and its vast collection of treasures.
Waldegrave Course
The Waldegrave Course plays off the yellow (holes 1-9) and blue (holes 10-18) tees. It is for use by all visitors and guests, and members playing casual rounds and some competitions.
The Waldegrave Course is named after Lady Frances Waldegrave who married John Waldegrave, the owner of Strawberry Hill House and grandson of Horace Walpole’s great niece, Elizabeth Waldegrave. Following John’s death in 1840, Lady Waldegrave married his brother, George. It was through him that she inherited Strawberry Hill House. She became a renowned hostess, entertaining members of the Royal Family and liberal establishment at her Twickenham home.
